The

Architectural Tour, organized by UrbaneSpaces, is in line with the latter’s design-conscious approach to the real estate market. A boutique real estate firm that is to be launched towards the end of this year, UrbaneSpaces is looking to inject some soul into a largely homogenized real estate brokerage industry.

The tour will cover some of the more prominent and interesting condominium developments in Singapore. Spanning a range of architectural styles and pedigree, the tour kicks off with Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 1; a project that has its origins in the 1967 Montreal Expo. Having recently gone through an upgrading project, Habitat 1 now benefits from a modern, streamlined pool, contemporary lift lobbies and an incredibly soignée reception area. Residents have taken their cue from the upgrading project. During and after the upgrading works, a few units have similarly been subject to renovations, resulting in delightful, modern interpretations of the original living space. Embracing the original maisonette layouts, these units have been redesigned to make the most of the double height ceilings, the generous balconies and the grand central columns.

The Colonnade, an offering by Paul Rudolph(one of the founders of the Modern Sarasota school of Architecture), has also benefited from a makeover. Kerry Hill Architects commissioned to oversee the upgrading works, imparted their

signature resort feel to the grounds. High lofty ceilings, imposing columns and generous floor space and distinguished architectural style has allowed this development to hold its own against newer developments in the area. Owned by a single developer, this development has the luxury of a singular hand controlling the tone of  renovations of the units.

The sensuous art deco curves of Futura, designed by Timothy Seow Associates, have resulted in it being one of the most photographed buildings of its decade. Still an imposing architectural statement today, Futura combines flair in design and an opportune location. The interesting design façade still makes it popular today amongst those intrigued by its architectural style.

Contemporary condo couture

Amongst today’s flurry of new launches and developments, No.1 Moulmein Rise has distinguished itself through its ultra-modern conception. In masculine modern tones, this development of slate grey granite and stainless steel designed by WoHa Architects, this development has brought new meaning to condo couture.

Following the success of No. 1 Moulmein Rise, the architects for this development have successfully lent its name to other notable residential projects.

Marking a trend in the purchasing patterns of private property amongst an increasingly design- conscious and discerning set, the pull of reputable architects in a residential project launch has not gone amiss amongst savvy developers.

Last stop is Lincoln Modern, which introduces loft living to tropical Singapore. Sleek design lines and designer fittings aside, Lincoln Modern is a pioneering example of how the interests of a developer can be conjoined with architecture and the urban fabric. The developer, well known as a premier developer of high end boutique developments has well started a trend where the developer simultaneously works to maintain the urban fabric as well as acting in the capacity of a patron for architecture.
